We Myrrhfolk just love our team, and we can't wait for you to get to know them! Myrrhmaid Sighting was created just for that purpose, to put a face and a story in front of each "myrrh-tail".
For as long as we've known each other, my husband and I have gravitated towards a clean, non-toxic approach to both our eating habits and lifestyle. We certainly aren't the strictest of people, but we have tried throughout the years to be conscious of what we consume and use in our household. So to be perfectly candid, it came as a huge shock to us when I was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer in January 2015. It would have been easy for us to question choices we've made in the past, and whether those led to my diagnosis...but we know that ultimately, God is in control of our story.
The past 9 months have been a journey for us in lots of ways. I've been through chemotherapy, radiation, hospitalizations, and five (to date) surgeries in such a short amount of time that it almost gives me whiplash when I really sit and think about it. I am hugely thankful for modern medicine and for the ways that it's made things easier for me this year. However, I think I am most grateful for the opportunity that has been set before us to dig deeper into our pursuit to support and maintain our bodies in healthy and integrative ways. A big component of that for our family has been through the use of Young Living essential oils. We started using them about two months prior to my diagnosis, and although we loved them from the beginning, I was a little overwhelmed at all there was (and still is!) to learn about them. It seemed that we truly began to appreciate their value when we began to experience the myriad of benefits through using them on a daily basis. We've incorporated them even more in our daily routine as a family (to support sleep, digestion, immunity, stress relief, to help with occasional discomfort, etc.) and I can't begin to tell you how thankful we've been for these oils.
There are several oils currently on my list of favorites, and would love to share with you how they've been helpful to us over the past several months:
-Cedarwood has been hugely helpful with getting sleep...I never used to have issues, but the stress of everything was starting to keep me awake at night. We usually apply to our wrists, behind our ears (and I also roll on the bottoms of my big toes, which are connected to your brain!) and it helps so much to promote restful sleep. On nights that are really bad, in addition to the Cedarwood I'll apply Joy over my heart, Valor on the back of my neck and Stress Away to my temples. We also love to diffuse a combo of Cedarwood and Lavender, which smells amazing in our room in addition to supporting sleep.
-Frankincense has been amazing to support healthy skin around incision scars I've had from numerous surgeries.
-Digize (diluted) rubbed on my abdomen helped with occasional nausea, and is also a huge help for any kind of digestive and intestinal support.
-Joy & Geranium have been so great to apply as a fragrance, they both smell amazing (the Joy blend actually has Geranium in it) and are super helpful in keeping my thoughts positive!
-I've used a roller bottle combo of Panaway, Peppermint, Valor & Frankincense diluted with coconut oil, which has felt great to soothe my tight neck muscles following brain surgery.
-I keep a roller bottle of Stress Away in my purse at all times...it's great to apply to my wrists, temples and back of my neck and to just pray and breathe.
-Thieves. I can't say enough. This has been my very favorite from the get go...we apply it to our spines and the bottoms of our feet for immune support, and we also use it for oral health, cleaning, etc. One of our favorite ways to take it is in a hot tea if we start to feel run down...one drop of Thieves, 2 drops of Lemon, a spoonful of raw honey in a cup of hot water. Feels so good on your throat and tastes amazing.
-We both drink 2oz. of Ningxia Red every morning, which is great for immune support. I'll usually add a drop of Lemon to it, which supports healthy digestion, as well as a drop of Sacred Frankincense.
-And our little secret for creating a calming environment in a hospital room, while making it feel the very tiniest bit closer to home is by diffusing either Lavender or Peace & Calming. Game changer.
I'd love to share as we learn more about the amazing benefits that essential oils have to offer us and inform how we approach our journey to a healthy and non-toxic lifestyle. Feel free to let me know if you have questions at all. I would be happy to answer from my own experience or help you find answers if there's anything specific you're wondering about!
